The Structure and Characteristics of The Corpus of Polish Science of Science Journals

Purpose/Thesis: This article introduces the Corpus of Polish Science of Science Journals (CPSSJ), a specialized corpus created to support research in the field of science of science and its development in Poland.
Approach/Methods: The construction of the corpus was based on the digitization of previously non-digitized articles and the retrieval of articles from scientific journal websites and digital libraries. The documents were processed by various natural language processing methods.
Results and Conclusions: The capabilities of the CPSSJ are demonstrated through a topic modeling analysis of the Nauka Polska journal. The current iteration of the CPSSJ incorporates 12 Polish science of science journals published between 1918 and 2020, comprising a total of 51,822 documents.
Research Limitations: The study acknowledges limitations of the corpus, particularly in the context of natural language processing and optical text recognition. While acknowledging some limitations, the article also explores opportunities for the future development of corpus.
Practical Implications: In the future, the corpus could facilitate the reconstruction of discourses related to science and higher education in Poland, thus enhancing the recognition of Polish science of science globally.
Originality/Value: The construction of this corpus represents an original undertaking, involving the digitization and processing of science of science papers. This effort resulted in the creation of a unique tool for discourse analysis.

How do early career researchers perceive success in their fields? – report on interviews with humanists, theologians and scientists-artists in Poland

Purpose: This paper presents the Polish researchers’ opinions on success perception in science and examines the role of bibliometric and altmetric indices/metrics. It also provides respondents’ statements on how their work is evaluated at Polish universities.
Methods: The data come from in-depth interviews (spring 2023) with early career researchers in Linguistics, Literary Studies, History, Philosophy, Polish studies, Theology, Arts, Music, Plastic/Fine Arts, and Film.
Results: The respondents’ attachment to indices used in the periodical evaluation of scholars at Polish universities, such as the number of publications, ministerial score points, and external grants, was observed. The respondents were critical of citations as the determinant of success. They were generally not very interested in altmetrics.
Value: The importance of this research (National Science Centre grant No 2022/45/B/HS2/00041), which is the Polish continuation of the two international projects (2016–2022), lies mainly in providing a platform to researchers in art and humanities, not included in earlier studies devoted to the sciences and social sciences.

Information about film awards versus viewers' interests

Purpose: The topic of consideration is information about film awards and the interest of humanities and social sciences students in film (ad. information and knowledge management). The aim will be to determine whether there is a correlation between the access and use of information about film awards and the recipients’ preferences regarding their general interest in the art of moving images.
Methods: Desk research and a CAWI survey were used.
Results: As a result, the initial hypotheses will be verified, including those concerning the greater interest of viewers in the works of the finalists and film award winners.

Sources of information about the behavior of TV viewers using RPD measurement.

Objective/Thesis: The article aims to show how television content distribution technology is conducive to obtaining information about viewers’ behavior for the media market, answering the question of how data allows the building of behavioral profiles and adjusting the program offer of the TV station.
Concept/Test methods: The basis for writing this article was the results of pilot studies conducted in selected television companies on the possibility of using RPD data to build awareness about the needs of viewers and the use of personalized advertising in the future. The research on the RPD data obtained from Gemius allowed to conduct analysis in September – October 2022 at the Red Carpet station. The determinant of inquiring for new sources for research was the COVID-19 period, when conducting research with respondents was limited.
Results and conclusions: The research confirms the technological possibilities to use RPD data to build behavioral profiles of TV viewers. Interviews conducted at the same time confirm the market’s willingness to use data in new business areas.
Originality/Cognitive value: The author presented a variety of measurement data obtained from many forms of television content distribution. These data can be a supplement to the current research or be used independently to obtain knowledge about the activity of households in front of TV screens. The future of using RPD data is seen in personalized advertising, known as DAI for short. Potential analyses and data presentations were shown on RPD data from cable and IPTV operators. The potential of building knowledge about viewers and the use of RPD data for new advertising models is one of the new directions of development for TV broadcasters.
Research limitations: The research was conducted on one RPD data source – obtained from cable and IPTV operators. However, it is reasonable to extend the research to the area of content distribution, such as Digital Terrestrial Television as well as satellite and OTT broadcasting.
